Mexico is experiencing a diversity of problems, among them stand out violence and insecurity.
This reality is a harbinger of a constant state of crisis: the criminalization of migrants, the persecution and the disappearance of people, which in Mexico exceeded one hundred thousand in 2022. The various forms of violence expose the banalization associated with the decay of the social relations, and the impunity in the face of cases of human rights violations. However, issues such as poverty and social exclusion are the consequences of an economic system that is not exclusive to this country.
Voz Y resistencia aims to make visible that which is ignored. The artists exhibited share an insight on this theme, unveiling the structural flaws of our social en economic system.
Gina Arizpe addresses phenomena such as feminicide, precarious work and poverty, while Hernán Gonzaléz examines the social stereotypes associated with violence and the narratives that exclude and celebrate it. Fabiola Rayas, ias part of her work as an activist, collaborates with organizations that stand by human rights and denounce cases of forced disappearances.
The visual and emotional impact of the works - that can both move and outrage - is a form of resistance to the current state of impunity. In places where silence is the norm, artists are the vehicle for everyone’s anger. In spite of the pain but with hope, they reinvent and raise their voices to stop reoccurrence.
