An exhibition by Patrícia Almeida, curated by Susana Gaudêncio in collaboration with David-Alexandre Guéniot
Between 14 November and 21 December 2024, RAMPA is exhibiting a selection of works - produced between 2012 and 2017 - by Patrícia Almeida (Lisbon, 1970-2017), photographer, visual artist and co-founder of the Ghost publishing house (2011).
The exhibition includes works by the author that reflect a critical and politicised view of the consequences of economic austerity during the 2008-2013 crisis. Through a series of photographs, videos, installations and publications, the impact of these policies on individuals, families, institutions and places is expressively and eloquently traced. In this particular thematic context, his production is not only artistically motivated, but above all, it demonstrates the need to position the individual and the family in relation to the collective, as a political body.
The aim is to create a space for analysing the ways in which these events still have repercussions today, and the hope that it is possible to react and act against the sometimes unsustainable weight of events.
Between explicit activism and subtle gestures of resistance, Patrícia Almeida's work offers a poetic and critical view of how bodies resist and performatively occupy public and private space, challenging the logics that try to silence their voices.
The exhibition brings each visitor face to face with a reality in which apnoea is not just a state of waiting, but of catching one's breath, a prelude to action.
