Paulo Moreira

Paulo Moreira (Porto, 1980) is an architect and researcher based in Porto. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto in 2005, having also studied at the Accademia di Architettura, Mendrisio (Switzerland). He received his doctorate from London Metropolitan University in 2018, where he completed his master's degree, with distinction, in 2009. Since 2011 she has worked at Paulo Moreira Architectures, where she develops architectural and research projects in the field of architecture and disciplinary crossings. In the field of disciplinary practice, he has won awards for public and private rehabilitation projects of various scales and typologies. In the academic field, he researches spatial practices and urbanism in post-colonial contexts, having published several articles and books, and taught in Portugal and abroad. He was co-coordinator of the Chicala Observatory, a project based at the Agostinho Neto University (Angola), and is a member of Africa Habitat, a research project at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon. In the field of cultural production, he is the founder of INSTITUTO, a cultural space in Porto, where he is artistic director, and since 2021 he has been co-director of the Arquiteturas Film Festival. Over the years, he has had various experiences in Biennial and Triennial contexts. He took part in the Portuguese Pavilion in two editions of the International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia (Homeland, 2024; and In Conflict, 2020). He took part in the Lisbon Architecture Triennale (2007 and 2013) and the Oslo Architecture Triennale (2016 and 2019). He has won several awards and grants, including the Global Energy Award - Angola (2016) for the construction of a school in Luanda; New Awards in the Architecture category (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, 2015); IHRU Award (2014); Távora Award (Northern Regional Section of the Portuguese Architects Association, 2012); Prize for Social Entrepreneurship (London Met, 2009); Noel Hill Travel Award 2009 (American Institute of Architects - UK chapter).
